Getting back in the saddle.....

....okay, it has been way too long since we have updated the website and the blog....sorry! I am now almost 26 weeks preggers with our third little girl and have really enjoyed spending some extra time with my girls knowing that time would be limited in the near future. We spent the Summer, Fall and Holidays doing all kind of fun stuff together.
We have kept busy filling deliciousDESIGNS orders as they came in but did nothing in terms of marketing, trade shows, home shows or new items. I REALLY miss it! So, we are back in the studio and back to the drawing board. I am thinking some new itty bitty baby items would be a good idea. More to come :-)

Two siestaKEY dresses ready to ship!

Elle is ready for her birthday party in her sister's size three siestaKEY....she wanted to wear it a bit shorter with leggings ~ she usually wears a 5 or 6. This is not on the website as of yet so if you are interested, send us a message through the 'contactUS' page.

We have a size 2 and a size 5 available to ship immediately ~ all other sizes can be made! These dresses are all hand made by professional seamstresses and are all made in the U.S. !

Mothering Magazine - Babywearing is Safe!

Please take a look at the below and keep wearing your babies close - just be sure you are using a safe sling and wearing it correctly. This is a response to CPSC Sling Warning - one of my favorite parenting magazines - they are fabulous!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mothering Responds to CPSC Sling Warning: Babywearing Is Safe

PRESS CONTACT: Elizabeth Carovillano 505.984.6289 | Office 505.690.0040 | Cell elizabethc@mothering.com | E-mail

SANTA FE, NM (March 18, 2010) — On March 12, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), a Federal Agency, issued a warning in regard to the use of baby slings. The CPSC asserts that there is a risk of slings suffocating infants who are younger than four months old, and that caution should be used when carrying babies of this age group in slings.

Mothering puts the CPSC warning in perspective: Babywearing is safe, but some slings and positions are not. While baby carriers are as old as civilization, modern babywearing has exploded in the last four years. Along with this rapid increase in use has come the creation of some unsafe carriers, in particular bag-style slings that have a deep pouch, excessive fabric, and an elasticized edge. These deep, bag-style slings can be especially dangerous for premature or small babies.

Some general guidelines for safe babywearing:

1. Only choose a sling that allows you to see your baby’s face.

2. Be sure baby is not curled up tightly, chin to chest. This position can restrict breathing, especially in newborns or in infants who cannot yet hold up their heads.

3. Make sure that the sling fabric is “breathable,” and keep baby’s face clear of fabric.

4. Do not press baby’s face tightly against the sling wearer’s body.

5. Position the baby’s face upward.

6. Reposition baby if there are any signs of respiratory difficulty: rapid or labored breathing, grunting or sighing with every breath, restlessness.

For more information, see Mothering’s Special Report on Babywearing

Tune in to Mothering Radio at 11:30 PST on Monday, March 22, for an exclusive one-hour show featuring Glenda Criss-Forshey, president of Babywearing International; M’Liss Stelzer, author of “Babywearing 101”; Jane McClintock, of Quirky Baby, an online baby carrier distributor, and Alma Gordillo-Webb, moderator of Mothering.com’s babywearing community. Great fun with kiddos!

My girls and I just finished making homemade play dough and I thought I would share the recipe. It is so easy to do and makes for a great afternoon project.

Here goes:

3 cups of flour
1 1/2 cups of salt
3 cups of water
3 teaspoons of cream of tartar (finally found a use for it - been in the pantry for years)
4 tablespoons of oil
Food coloring - full bottle for intense colors
Scented oil (optional - only if you want it to smell yummy)

Mix everything together and stir well. Mixture will be lumpy. Heat on low heat until mixture clumps together. Stir to very thick 'mashed potato" consistency. Cool 10 minutes. Dump onto clean surface and knead for 5 minutes. Store in plastic bag or air tight container. Will keep up to 4 weeks at room temperature. Also freezes very well.

Have fun and enjoy time with your little ones!

Spring has sprung at dD!

So many new things to add to the site......this is just one of them!!! I just can not get over this one. We mixed some fun spring colors with the basic knot dress for a little fun. We are in the process of creating the coordinating pant ~ can't wait to share with you all.

The headband with detachable flower is a new dD accessory as well. These are fabulous because you can get a couple of our headbands that have the fabric already stitched in to hold whatever flower looks best with your little fashionista's ensemble. We will have flowers of every color hitting the site over the next couple days!

Happy spring to all of you!

Crazy Ride....

What a typical day on the crazy ride of owning a business and trying to raise the next two 'perfect' citizens.....my kiddos! There are so many things to do on the dD 'to do' list and we just get through them one at a time in between all the other work at home moments. It has been a beautiful day full of snow and the Spring samples need to come in the door any minute, we need to get signed up for the shows we are doing and finish uploading the new products blah blah blah - we could go on for pages!
With that said, we sit back and have to think about how far we have come ~ how we have grown in such a short amount of time and even though each task seems as though it takes about 10 times the amount of time it should take because it is peppered with moments of mommy hood ~ it all gets done somehow :-)
Just like this blog post, it is getting accomplished because my girls are playing in the bathtub with ariel, velma, prince charming, cinderella, mulan, sleeping beauty and discussing how they are traveling to their home in Orlando. I sit with my laptop in amazement of their little imaginations ~ life is grand!!

My littlest princess turns three!

She requested a Fancy Nancy tea party with her closest friends and that is exactly what she got ~ in addition to the good ol'family birthday party of course. She had so much fun being fancy with her friends ~ they drank tea, ate pink cupcakes, ate sandwiches in the shapes of tiaras and high heals, adorned themselves with boas and practiced their french. What a fabulous way to ring in "3"!!

Think Spring!!!

We are finalizing several of our Spring designs are here are a few of the fabrics we are using. We are adding some color and of course, typical dD flair. We will continue to release several new hair accessories each day as well as our new Spring designs as soon as they reach the studio. We can't wait to show you the new stuff ~ too fun!

Hair accessories....

You can start to think Spring with these new hair accessories hitting the dD site. I will be adding these to the site later today and tomorrow ~ many are one of a kind so if you want it.....get it quick.

Flowers are all the rage this Spring and Summer. You can put them in your little fashionista's hair "as-is" or you can clip to a headband, a simple tank, a hat and more. It adds the finishing touch to any outfit.

Few more random disney tips....

Anyone who has been to Disney knows that getting something good to eat is a challenge and getting good food at a reasonable price is even more challenging. When you stay on the property, you feel limited.....we discovered that there are places that will deliver to your hotel ~ all you have to do is ask! Some nights you just want to get a pizza and feed the whole family for $20.....call dominos at 407.239.1221 or ask for the number of your favorite restaurant at the front desk.

Sample Itinerary:

Day one: Magic Kingdom of course! Dinner at Tony's Town Square

Day two: Epcot ~ Dinner at San Angel Inn in Mexico

Day three: easy morning and back to Epcot ~ be sure to let your kids decorate masks and collect charms at each of the countries

Day four: Animal Kingdom and back to the hotel for late dinner...other options are Rainforest Cafe or T-Rex at Downtown Disney ~ maybe a good night to order the pizza :-)

Day Five: Hollywood Studios ~ eat at Mama Melrose's - get to the Fantasmic show very early or you may end up standing

Day Six: Magic Kingdom of course! Dinner at The Plaza

It is always fun to add in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, dinner with Cinderella in the Castle or breakfast with the princesses in Norway....for boys, Pirate training, yoda training....hmmm, have not done too much boy stuff.

Random Disney Tips.....

Minnie loved theMARMONT pant ~ given she could not talk, she had to use some serious body language to communicate how much she liked them.

Here are a few random Disney tips for those of you planning a trip....

If you go to Hollywood Studios on a night when Fantasmic is NOT showing, go to Animation Courtyard and inside the same building as The Magic of Disney Animation you will hit the jackpot when it comes to meeting all the characters ~ very cool! You must also go back on a night when Fantasmic is showing and see it ~ it is great too!

Also, if in Hollywood Studios, you MUST ride the Toy Story Midway Mania ride ~ it is fantastic!

If your children get sick while at Disney (ours did) and you are staying on Disney property without a car, Turner Drugs will deliver any prescriptions to you for a $5 charge if your doc will call something in for you. Their phone number is 407.828.8125 or ask your front desk. If your doc will not call in a scrip, there is an immediate care facility called CentraCare that will provide complimentary transportation to and from their facility. www.centracare.org or 407.938.0650.

Stayed at the Polynesian this time.....not our favorite thus far. Still prefer Animal Kingdom and the Swan over Polynesian. Also, I DO NOT recommend the Spirit of Aloha show at the Polynesian. Sorry Polynesian.......we did love the location and the ability to hop on the monorail!

I will be sharing many more Random Disney Tips as the week goes on.......for those of you care...

back from disney.....

This is a picture of a saying that is on my laundry room wall.....why not glam up an oh-so-not glamorous event? I share this with you because this has been my Sunday. We arrived home late last night from eight days in Disney World! We had a blast but are a little wore out. I am busy doing laundry, laundry and more laundry...

I will be sharing pics and tips all week on Disney. If you are planning a trip to 'the mouse's house', keep your eyes open for this week's posts.

deliciousDESIGNS definitely made quite an impression on everyone there.....my girls felt so special being told numerous times in a day as to how cute they were in their cool clothes....especially when it came from princesses mouths......too much fun!

No TV days rock!!!

As WAHM's, we always look for ways to get our very unrealistic to-do lists accomplished. Often times we think the TV is a good way to get 30 minutes here or 30 minutes there to make that phone call to the oh-so annoying cell phone company or cable provider.....you know the kind of calls I am talking about....the ones where we go through the automated chaos to be transferred several times to not being able to understand the person on the other line....and then, to be 'accidentally' disconnected.....yes, THAT phone call. Or maybe we are trying to check out email uninterrupted or hang out on facebook......I don't know who would do that :-)
Anyway, I find just the opposite happens when I introduce TV as my 30 minute helper. Today has been a no TV day and the girls have thought up all kinds of fun things to do ~ they have used their new sunglasses as inspiration to be rock stars and perform countless rock concerts ~ they have actually practiced their letters on dry erase boards and created several art pieces. All the while, I actually read an entire magazine from cover to cover after putting away groceries and loading the dishwasher.....priceless!
Now, I must go upstairs as I am late for my favorite mommy treat....mommy bath time with Oprah. The girls will be watching 30 minutes of Berenstain Bears :-)

haute hair fashion coming soon!

I am very excited to share that we will finally be adding hair accessories to the website available for purchase in the coming weeks ~ just in time for Spring and Summer. I met with the fabulous fashionista that will be hand crafting each piece. As soon as they hit my studio, they will be released. These pieces will either be one of a kind pieces or be in limited quantities so if you want it.....don't wait as it may not be able to be recreated.

chicWIPES have been added to the site.....

As a WAHM, everything takes longer than you think it will. Whether that is getting a product to the website or getting the house cleaned :-) However, mission 'adding chicWIPES to the website' is complete. We will be releasing several new fabric designs as well in the very near future. These are 'must haves' for you chic mommies...........add some posh to the whole 'wiping event'....

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

So many new things coming....

.....here is one of many new items coming to the dD website. We have had a few of these available at trunk shows and we are bringing them to the website as well. They are for the oh-so-chic mom's who want to carry wipes with a little class. Who says bum wipes have to be so vanilla? Why not add a little flair to the fun event of diaper changing or instead of wiping a little saliva on your child's face, pull out a chic wipe case. Please keep your eyes open as they will be available for purchase later this week. I personally keep on in the car, one in my purse and if another baby happens to come along, I would of course, keep one in the diaper bag!

Favorite Things.....

I love when people share their 'favorite things' because many times, they become my favorite things. I wanted to share one I discovered in the January 2010 Parents Magazine.

With all the snow we have so graciously received in the MidWest, we are always looking for fun things to do in the snow. It is a little cold to make a snowman so things like playing on the play gym full of snow, sledding and snow angels keep us busy. With that said, we tried one of the ideas in the Parents Magazine ~ we filled spray bottles with water and food coloring. We then proceeded to decorate the snow with all kinds of color. We had a blast - Enjoy with your little ones!!
